Top 5 Greatest NHL Rivalries

5. Pittsburgh Penguins/Washington Capitals: This rivalry has always been Crosby vs Ovechkin. In this regard, Washington has the upper hand in terms of skill. But on the other hand, the Pens have won a Cup, in a year in which they defeated Washington in 7 games to advance.
4. Pittsburgh Penguins/Philadelphia Flyers: This rivalry gets so heated mainly due to the raunchiness of the Flyers fans, who love to start fights, throw things, etc. But the battle of Pennsylvania doesn't stop with that, oh no. These are two great teams that fight for pride and glory every time they step on the ice against each other, and this year's playoff series showed the skill and toughness of each team. Upper-hand goes to Philly, due to their recent pounding of the Penguins.
3.Chicago Blackhawks/Detroit Redwings: This rivalry is as old as time itself. The "Detroit Sucks!" chants can be heard throughout the rafters of the United Center and the Redwings aren't too fond of the Hawks, either. The proximity of the two teams allows for a great rivalry, in which the Redwings have had the upper hand in, but recently have not.
2. Toronto Maple Leafs/Montreal Canadiens: The two hockey capitals of the world collide all the team for Canadian bragging rights and for pride, glory, and of course, 2 points in the standings (or a series lead). These two teams hate each other, because of their long history and fantastic players, this rivalry extends back for a long time. The Canadiens have the upper-hand in this rivalry, but recently neither team has been very dominant.
1. Chicago Blackhawks/Vancouver Canucks: This rivalry has it all: a playoff history, big moments, player rivalries you name it, it's got it. Alex Burrows is HATED by every Blackhawks fan, just as Kane is loathed by the Canucks. Luongo is a joke to Hawks fans, while Crawford can give the Canucks nightmares when his game is on. When the heat is on, the Hawks have the upper hand in this rivalry.
